    Description

Nohkalikai Falls is a waterfall located in Meghalaya, Northeast India. It is the third tallest plunge waterfall in India, with a height of 340 meters (1,120 feet). The waterfall is named after a local legend of a woman named Likai who jumped to her death from the top of the falls. The waterfall is located near Cherrapunji, which is known for its heavy rainfall and is one of the wettest places on Earth.

The Nohkalikai Falls viewpoint is easily accessible from the parking area, making it convenient for visitors to view the falls without having to take a long hike. The monsoon season, typically between June and September, is the best time to visit as the falls are at their most powerful and spectacular during this time. The falls will be in full flow and the mist generated by the falls will be spectacular. However, even during the dry season, the waterfall is still beautiful and the surrounding greenery will be lush and vibrant. The clear blue sky and the greenery surrounding the falls make it a perfect spot for photography. Also, the viewpoint is a great place to take in the natural beauty of the falls and the surrounding landscape, and it makes it a great experience for all ages.

Visitors to Nohkalikai Falls will also have access to different souvenirs, including traditional handicrafts made by the local Khasi people. Some popular souvenirs include bamboo art, which is a traditional craft of the Khasi people. These souvenirs can be purchased at the nearby market or shops and are a great way to support the local community and take a piece of their culture back home.

There are several ways to visit Nohkalikai Falls, each offering a unique perspective and experience:
From the top: Visitors can view the falls from the top, where they can take in the full magnitude of the falls and get a sense of the height and power of the water as it plunges into the gorge below, can only be visited during the dry season.
From the river bed: Visitors can trek down to the river bed and get a closer view of the falls. This allows them to see the falls from below and feel the power of the water as it crashes down.
From the viewpoint: Visitors can also view the falls from the viewpoint, which is easily accessible from the parking area, it’s a great place to take in the natural beauty of the falls and the surrounding landscape.
Each of these ways of visiting the falls offers a different perspective, and visitors can choose the one that best suits their interests and fitness level. It’s worth to note that visiting the falls from the river bed or from the top of the falls requires a moderate level of physical fitness, and the trek can be slippery and difficult to navigate, so visitors should wear appropriate shoes and exercise caution while visiting.
